Thomas Grady was born on 6 March 1856 at Back of Stafford Street, Dudley, Worcester, England.1 He was baptized on 7 March 1856 at Our Blessed Lady and St. Thomas More of Canterbury, Dudley, Worcestershire, England; Witn:Thomas Dillion and Maria Treacy.2 He was the son of Thomas Grady and Ann Scott McCloskey.
Thomas was enumerated with Thomas Grady on the census of 1 June 1880 at Shenandoah, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, as Thomas Grady. Thomas is listed as a white male age 24 years. He is a son , single, is employed as a laborer and was out of work for 6 months during the census year. He can read and write and was born in England. Both of his parents are indicated as born in Ireland.3
Joseph Lieberman: While not identified by their given names in a popular book about the Molly Macquires, some Grady brothers from Shenandoah were cited as having been supportive if not actively involved in that famous and infamous secret organization terrorizing Protestant mine bosses biased against Catholics. Thomas's sons were the only Gradys in town.4
The last of the Mollies had been hanged in 1879 in Sunbury. In the 1880 census for Shenandoah three of Thomas Grady's sons are living at home with Thomas and Ellen. They were Thomas, Patrick and Joseph ages 24, 20 and 15.
