An obituary was in the Belleview newspaper: Angelo Harrigan, 49, of Collinsville, employed as a trip rider in the Nigger Hollow Mine No 2 of the St Louis and O'Fallon Coal company, was crushed under one of the cars in a mine at 11 o'clock this morning and suffered internal injuries from which he died two hours later in St Elizabeth's Hospital. He was found by other workers under an empty car having apparently fallen from the train of cars. He was rushed to the hospital in the Gundlach and Company ambulance and died while doctors were administering to him. Harrigan is survived by a wife and four children. He was president of Local Union No 8 Progressive Mine Workers of America. The body is at the Fundlach and company funeral home.11 He was buried at Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery, Collinsville, Madison County, Illinois.10
Another obituary was in the Collinsville newspaper: Angelo Harrigan, miner, of 138 Washington Avenue, died at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Elisabeth's Hospital, Belleville, from injuries received when he was thrown from the train car which was derailed. The accident occurred at 11 a.m. at the St. Louis and O'Fallon Coal Company at Mine No. 2, 11 miles north---of Belleville. Harrigan, a trip rider, according to the officials was riding at the front of the 20-car empty, and was thrown from the car in to the path of the empties. A number of cars ran over his leg near the hip and crushed the limb. Harold Clayton, according to officials, said that he didn't know anything had happened until he felt the jar of the cars. Clayton, the motorman, hurried to the front and found Harrigan lying beneath the cars. He called for help and Harrigan was rushed to St. Elisabeth Hospital in Belleville where he died two hours later. An inquest will be held at a later date. Harrigan was born in Scammon, Kansas November 8, 1898, and moved to Collinsville some 12 years ago, and was the son of the ---Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Harrigan of Scammon, Kansas. It was said by friends who were near him until he died that he was conscious until the very end, and---he spoke of his children of whom he was very fond. Funeral services will be held on Thursday from the Schroeppel Funeral Home at 9 a.m. to the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church ---a.m. Rev B.N. Manning will officiate. Internment will be ---in the Catholic Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Walter De---, Olllie Hughes, Joseph ---, T.L. Dixon, Frank --- and Charles Kuefelkamp. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maybelle Harrigan (nee Porter), two daughters Deloris Ann and Mary Ellen Harrigan, two sons, Angelo Jr., and Leo Harrigan, his father, Hugh Harrigan, Sr. of Scammon, Kansas, four sisters Mary Nebins (sic), Kansas City, Mo., Elizabeth Carlson of Columbus, Kansas, Nellie Priddy, Coffeyville, Kansas, Lauretta Wright, California and three brothers, Joseph, Leo, and EDward Harrigan of Kansas, and two cousins, Barney and Jack McCormick of Collinsville. He was president of Local No. 8, Progressive Mine Workers of America. and a member of Leight-McEvatt Post 365, American Legion.5
