     Hugh Cain was born on 26 October 1849 at Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ He was the son of Hugh Cain and Mary Ann O'Hara.¹ Hugh Cain was baptized on 29 September 1850 at Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹

Hugh was enumerated with Hugh Cain on the census of 30 March 1851 at Wallacetown, Newton On Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland, as Hugh Cain. He is a 1 year old male son born circa 1850 in St. Quivox, Ayrshire.²
