     1840, 1850 Floyd Co. VA census'. Montgomery Co. marriage records, 10 Mar 1814, of John Epperly to Nancy Phares, lists Jacob Epperly as witness. Records of Mrs. William Potter, Grace Hylton Harris. Mrs. Potter gives birthplace as Charity, Patrick, VA, but this is unlikely as the family appeared to be living in Frederick Co MD during this period and did not move to VA until about 1797. Although John's christening record is not listed in the St. Peters Lutheran Church in Woodsboro, Frederick MD, there were siblings christened in 1786, 1787, 1792, and 1795. John also baptized 29 Jan 1972, endowed 4 Apr 1972.1

John Epperly was born circa 1791 at Frederick County, Maryland. He was the son of Catherina Sauer.

John Epperly married Nancy Phares, daughter of Amariah Phares and Elizabeth Beheler, on 10 March 1814 at Montgomery, Virginia.

John is head of household on the census of 10 August 1850 at Western District 15, Floyd County, Virginia, as John Epperly. He is a 59 year old white male enumerated as a farmer born in Floyd County. Enumerated with him were Andrew J. Epperly, Margaret Epperly, Nancy Epperly, Susanna Epperly, Sarah Epperly and Nancy Phares.2
