Eden Epperly

Zion Church registry Marriage to Leah Gilham from Agee family Bible in poss. of According to Wood (1981), 'Eden Epperly (1814-1876), son of John and Nancy (Farris), married Leah, daughter of William and Polly (Goodykoontz) Gilham, and lived in Floyd County on Dodds Creek.' (p. 60). 1850 Floyd census gives Eden's age as 35 (1850 - 35 = 1815 for birthyear). Eden Epperly 35 M b. He also lists children of Eden and Leah as: Mary, John W., Rosetta, Lafayette, Madison, and Elizabeth Adaline, and Drucilla (p. 63). James M could be Madison. Is David 'Lafayette', and is Nancy A. 'Elizabeth Adaline'?¹

Eden Epperly was born in 1814 at Montgomery, Virginia. He was the son of John Epperly and Nancy Phares.

Eden Epperly married Leah Gilham, daughter of William Gilham and Maria Goodykoontz, on 18 September 1845 at Floyd County, Virginia.

Eden is head of household on the census of 10 August 1850 at Western District 15, Floyd County, Virginia, as Eden Epperly. He is a 35 year old white male enumerated as a farmer with value of real estate owned at $600. He was born in Floyd County. Enumeraterd in this household is Thomas Oder, an 8 year old white male born in Floyd County. Enumerated with him were James M. Epperly, Nancy A. Epperly, David Epperly and Leah Gilham.²

Eden is head of household on the census of 25 August 1860 at P.O. Box Floyd, Floyd County, Virginia, as Eden Epperly. He is a 45 year old white male born in Virginia. He is enumerated as a farmer and his real estate value is $1200. His personal estate is $900. Enumerated with him were Leah Gilham, Mary Gilham Epperly, John William Epperly and Drucilla Epperly.³

Eden is head of household on the census of 3 June 1870 at Jacksonville Township, Floyd County, Virginia, as Eden Epperly. He is a 55 yeqar old white male born in Virginia. He real estate is valued at $600 and his personal estate is $340. He is enumerated as a farmer. Enumerated with him were Rozetta Epperly, Drucilla Epperly, John William Epperly and Leah Gilham.⁴

Eden Epperly died in 1876.
