According to Wood (1981), 'the Agee family came from Patrick County where they had lived for a number of years. ...Joshua Agee married Sallie Brammer (1796-18??) of Patrick County, and, about the year 1825, moved to the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains about three miles east of Haycock Mountain. They were the parents of James Agee, who married Judith Thomas....William Agee , second son of Joshua, married Nancy Robertson, daughter of John Robertson, and they lived on a part of the Joshua Agee homeplace... After the death of his first wife, Joshua Agee the settler married Mary J. Via of Patrick County, by whom he had two children: Cora Lee married Rev. Everett Lancaster, a Baptist minister; and Marian Agee married a granddaughter of James P. Martin...' (p. 2).¹

Joshua Agee married Sarah Brammer, daughter of John W. Brammer Jr. and Sarah Lee, on 26 March 1821 at Patrick County, Virginia.

Joshua was widowed by the death of Sarah Brammer on 3 July 1858.
