Ellen McCormick

     Ellen McCormick was born in June 1875 at Mercer County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of John McCormick and Ann Hughes.

Ellen was enumerated with James McLean on the census of 15 June 1880 at Minonk, Woodford County, Illinois, as Ellen McClane. She is listed as a daughter and she is 5 years old. She was born in Pennsylvania. Her father was born in Ireland and her mother was born in Scotland.²

Ellen was enumerated with James McLean on the census of 1 March 1885 at Mineral Township, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Ellon McLean. She is a 10 year old female. She was born in Pennsylvania and came from Illinois to Kansas.³

Ellen McCormick and Patrick Hunt obtained a marriage license on 19 September 1893 at Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas.⁴

Ellen married Patrick Hunt, son of Laurence Hunt and Ann Carlin, on 27 September 1893 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas, other participants were Mary Ellen McCormick. Rev J.J. Dunning officiating.^5,6

The following article appeared in the Scammon Miner: Married-At the Catholic Church in Scammon, Sept. 27th, Mr. Patrick Hunt of Bloomsburg, N.M. and Miss Ellen McCormick, Scammon, Rev J.J. Dunning officiating. Mr. Owen Pryor acted as groomsman and Miss Mollie McCormick as bridesmaid. After the ceremony the happy couple repaired with their friends to the residence of the bride's mother, Mrs. Jas. McLean, where the remainder of the day was spent in feasting and otherwise celebrating the happy event. The groom is well and favorably known among the old settlers of Scammon. The bride, having dwelt in this vicinity since early childhood, has by her diligence and gentility won the esteem of all who knew her. We understand that the happy couple will make their home in New Mexico. While we are sorry to lose them from our midst, the best wishes of the Globe-Miner is heartily extended to them.⁵

Ellen was enumerated with Patrick Hunt on the census of 7 June 1900 at Baker, Crawford County, Kansas, as Ella Hunt. She is a married white female and is 24 years old. She was born June 1875 in Pennsylvania. She has been married for 7 years and given birth to 4 children with 3 surving. Both of her parents were born in Scotland.⁸
