Margaret Toner

     Margaret Toner was born in June 1839 at County Armagh, Ireland. Margaret Toner is indicated as 40 yrs old on the marriage register for Jul 1885. Her headstone inscription indicates that she was 60 yrs old Jun 1902.^2,1 She was the daughter of Edward Toner and Mary McQuaid.¹

Margaret Toner married John Rice, son of John Rice and Rose Mary McCann, on 3 June 1872 at Neshannock Catholic Church, Neshannock, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, other participants were Felix Rice.³

Margaret Toner married Michael O'Malley on 30 July 1895 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.¹

Margaret is head of household on the census of 6 June 1900 at Mineral Twp, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Margaret Omaley. She is a 60 year old white female enumerated as a widow. She was born Jun 1859 in Ireland as were both of her parents. She owns her home free of mortgage. Enumerated with her were Felix Rice, Edward Rice and Mary Rice.⁵

Margaret Toner died on 7 June 1902 at At the home, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.⁶ She was buried after 7 June 1902 at St Bridget's Cemetery, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.^7,6

An obituary was in the local newspaper: Mrs. Margret O'Maley died at her home in the East part of this city Saturday, aged 60 years. The funeral services were conducted by Father Hudson after which internment followed in St. Bridget's Cemetery. She was the mother of Felix, Ed, and Miss Mamie Rice and her death will be a great loss, not only to her children, but to all who knew her.
