Bernard was enumerated with Daniel McCormick on the census of 1 June 1900 at Mineral Twp, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Bernard McCormick. Bernard is listed as a 16 year old white male born Oct 1883 in Ohio. His father was born in Scotland and his mother was born in Ireland.2

Bernard McCormick married Maggie Coman on 3 October 1906 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas. The marriage of Barney McCormick and Miss Maggie Coman has been announced to take place at the Catholic church at an early date.3,4,5 Bernard McCormick was a coal miner in April 1910 at Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.6 Bernard McCormick was head of household in the 1910 US Census of Mineral Twp, Scammon City, Cherokee County, Kansas, with Maggie Coman and Arthur McCormick in the same household.7

Bernard was enumerated with Hannah Gavin on the census of 15 April 1915 at Mineral Twp, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Barney McCormick. Bernard is a 31 year old white male born in Ohio. He came from Ohio to Kansas and works as a coal miner.8

Bernard was enumerated with Hannah Gavin on the census of 1 June 1920 at Mineral Twp, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Bernard McCormick. Bernard is indicated as a white male 36 years of age born in Ohio. He is a widower and works as a coal miner. both his mother and father wre born in Ireland.9 In 28 April 1948 Bernard McCormick lived at Collinsville, Madison County, Illinois.10

Bernard McCormick's wife Maggie or Margaret Coman died in 1914 leaving a son Arthur. Arthur was taken in and raised by the Coman family. The Coman's were a mercantile family in Scammon. Even as late as 1920, Bernard is still in Scammon living with his mother, Hannah, while his son Arthur is enumerated with Winnie Coman, who interestingly was married and diviorced from Daniel Harrigan, Bernard's first cousin. Marge Thayer has indicated that Bernard McCormick remarried in Collinsville but there is no information to document this event. Marge believes there were no children from his second marriage.11
