Gertrude Harrigan married Joseph Edward McKenna Sr. on 6 February 1934 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas. P.J. O'Leary officiated and the attendeants were Tom McCullough and Lucretia Robinson, first cousin to Gertrude.3,4
The following appeared in the local paper: "Joseph Edward McKenna of Scammon and Miss Gertrude Harrigan, of Corona, were married in the Catholic Church at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning. Father O'Leary officiated."5
Gertrude Harrigan was working as a cook at Maude Norton Hospital between 1972 and 1982 at Columbus, Crawford County, Missouri.6

She had been a patient in the hospital for one day and a patient at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac since 1992. She was born Sept. 26, 1914, at Corona to Hugh Jr. and Lillian May (Stoker) Harrigan. She had been a resident of the Weir, Scammon and Carona area for most of her life and graduated from West Mineral High School. She married Joseph Edward McKenna on Feb 6, 1934, at St Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammobn. He preceded her in death Oct 31, 1969. Mrs McKenna had been a cook at the Maude Norton Memorial Hospital in Columbus for 10 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, a former member of St Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon, the Sacred Heart Altar Society, the Caring Club of Frontenac, served as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program in Weir and Frontenac, and helped organize the Weir Senior Citizen's Club. Survivors include two sons, Joseph McKenna Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., and Edward McKenna of Branson, Mo; four daughters, Lillian Wayenberg of Mission, Philomena Fromong of Independence, Mary Wilson and Veronica Boyce, both of Frontenac; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Patrick McKenna; a daughter, Kathryn Brownlee; one brother; and four sisters. Mass of Christain burial will be at 11a.m. Monday at St Bridget's Church in Scammon, with Fr. Patrick York and Fr Chrysostom Ah Maung as celebrants. Burial will be in St Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in Scammon. The parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. sunday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.7 She was buried on 7 July 1997 at St Bridget's Cemetery, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.6
