     Hugh Ambrose Harrigan was born on 2 May 1916 at Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas. He was the son of Hugh Harrigan and Lillian May Stoker.

Hugh was enumerated with Lillian May Stoker on the census of 15 March 1920 at Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Hugh Harrigan. Hlugh is listed as a white male 3 years of age. He was born in Kansas as were both of his parents.1
He fought in World War ll, serving in the U.S. Army in company A, 43rd Engineer Construction Battalion as a demolition specialist from 10 December 1940 to 2 January 1945. He saw action in the Pacific theater of operations including the New Guinea Campaign, the Papua Campaign, and the East Indes Campaign. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with Three Bronze Stars.2,3

Hugh Ambrose Harrigan married Marjorie Davis on 11 June 1946 at St Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas. Reverend Herbert N Hertel officiated. Attendants were Joseph and Gertrude McKenna.4

Hugh Ambrose Harrigan died on 20 March 1988 at Mt Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas, at age 71.2
An obituary was in the Columbus newspaper: Hugh A Harrigan, 71, of Weir route one, died at 11 p.m. Sunday at Mt Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg. He had been in ill health the past three years and was hospitalized shortly before his death. He was born May 2, 1916, in Scammon, the son of Hugh A and Lillian Stoker Harrigan. He had been a resident of rural Weir the past 35 years, living his entire life in the Scammon and Weir areas. He married Marjorie Davis June 11, 1946, in Scammon. She survives. Mr Harrigan had been a construction worker and had been employed at the Wallite plant in Pittsburg for six years. Prior to his retirement in 1975, he worked for the City of Scammon in the water department for two years. He was a veteran of World War ll serving in the U.S. Army. Mr Harrigan saw action in the Pacific theater of operations including the New Guinea campaign and the East Indies campaign. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Weir, and the Disabled American Veterans, Pittsburg, of which he served as commander in 1981. Additional survivors include two daughters, Ella Buzzard, Seneca, Kan. and Emma Thomas, Parsons, Kan; three sons, Hugh E Harrigan, Weir route one; Angelo J. Harrigan, Wyoming, Mich. and Daniel H. Harrigan, Independence, Mo; three sisters, Evelyn Haggerty, Raytown, Mo., Anna O'Neil, Raytwon, Mo. and Gertrude McKenna, Frontenac; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Philomena Ghilino, Josephine Clasby, and Emma Harrigan. Concelebrated funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon. Father Peter Finnegan and Father Leo Metcko will serve as celebrants. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Bath-Naylor funeral Home in Weir. Parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Hospice Unit at Mt Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg. Gifts may be left at the funeral home.5 He was buried on 23 March 1988 at St Bridget's Cemetery, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.2
