Carrie Lyons married Francis M. Fern, son of John Fern Sr and Mary Rice, on 31 December 1884 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas. (Attendants were John O'Malley and Johanna Lyons).^3,4

She is 36 years old and has been married for 15 years. She has given birth to 8 children and 6 survive. Both of her parents were born in Ireland.⁶ The following appeared in the Scammon paper dated 10 May 1940: Following of Scammon helped Mrs. Francis Ferns in Pittsburg to celebrate her birthday: Mr. and Mrs. Owen Pryor, Mr. and Mrs James Fern, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McCormick, Mr. and Mrs. Joe P. Fern, Mrs. Maude Coman, Mrs Josie Rice and son Joe and Joe L. Fern drove to Pittsburg Saturday evening to assist Mrs. Francis Fern (Aunt Carrie) celebrate her 77 birthday anniversary. All reported a good time, and departed wishing her many more happy birthdays.⁷
