      Carrie Lyons was also known as Catherine Lyons.1 She was born circa May 1864 at Swansea, Wales.2

Carrie Lyons married Francis M. Fern, son of John Fern Sr and Mary Rice, on 31 December 1884 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas. (Attendants were John O'Malley and Johanna Lyons).3,4

Carrie was on the census of 15 March 1885 at Mineral Twp, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Carrie Ferin. Carrie is a 21 year married white female born in Wales. She came from Iowa to Kansas.5

Carrie was enumerated with Francis M. Fern on the census of 1 June 1900 at Mineral Twp, Cherokee County, Kansas, as Carrie Ferns. Carrie is a 36 year old white female born May 1864 in Wales. She is 36 years old and has been married for 15 years. She has given birth to 8 children and 6 survive. Both of her parents were born in Ireland.6 The following appeared in the Scammon paper dated 10 May 1940: Following of Scammon helped Mrs. Francis Ferns in Pittsburg to celebrate her birthday: Mr. and Mrs. Owen Pryor, Mr. and Mrs James Fern, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McCormick, Mr. and Mrs. Joe P. Fern, Mrs. Maude Coman, Mrs Josie Rice and son Joe and Joe L. Fern drove to Pittsburg Saturday evening to assist Mrs. Francis Fern (Aunt Carrie) celebrate her 77 birthday anniversary. All reported a good time, and departed wishing her many more happy birthdays.7
