     These two daughters led eventful lives and became nuns in the Order of the Sisters of Loretta. They were highly educated. Mary (Sister Mary Bridget) wrote monographs describing their lives. The monographs reveal a deep understanding of human nature mixed with a dry wit and unswerving commitment to their ideals.1 Mary Fern was born in 1874 at Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio.2 She was the daughter of John Fern Sr and Mary Rice.
