      John Arthur Brady Sr. was also known as Jock Brady.1 He was born on 15 August 1849 at Harthill, Lanarkshire, Scotland.2
John Arthur Brady Sr. married Isabella McCormick, daughter of Bernard McCormick and Ellen O'Hara, on 24 October 1872 at St. Rose Catholic Church, Hickory Corners, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, other participants were Jeanette Harrigan and John McCormick.3,4

John is head of household on the census of 5 June 1880 at Mineral Twp, Cherokee County, Kansas, as John Brady. John is a white male indicated as 28 years old. He has been employed 4 months of the current year and works as a coal miner. He was born in Scotland and both parents were born in Ireland. Enumerated with him were Catherine Brady, Thomas Brady, Bernard A. Brady, Isabella McCormick, Hugh Harrigan and Daniel McCormick.5 John Arthur Brady Sr. was the godparent at the baptism of Hugh Harrigan on 5 February 1883 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.6

He works as a gardner. Enumerated with him were Isabella McCormick, Thomas Brady, Annie Celia Brady, Barbara Brady, William Brady and Jeneeva Greer.12

John Arthur Brady Sr. died on 20 November 1927 at Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas, at age 78.2,14,15 He was buried on 22 November 1927 at St. Bridget's Cemetery, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.2,14
An obituary was in the Scammon newspaper: John Arthur Brady, 78-3-5, a pioneer resident of Scammon and this distict, died at his home here at 7:30 Sunday morning after a short sickness. Mr. Brady was born August 15, 1849, in Scotland, coming to this country in 1875, moving to Scammon shortly afterward, residing here the pst 50 years. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Barney Brady of Scammon, Wm. Brady of Pittsburg and Patrick Brady of Scammon; three daughters, Mrs Tressa Fleming of Kansas City, Mrs. Anna Masterson here in Scammon and Mrs Barbara Hanson of Cincinnati; and three sisters, two in Scotland and one in New York. Funeral services were held at 9:00 o'clock Tuesday morning from St. Brigid's Catholic Church of which he was a member. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.16
