An obituary was in the Scammon newspaper: John Brady was killed Tuesday night while firing shots in No. 15 Western Coal and Mining Co.'s mine at Franklin. His partner, Charles Zeigler escaped without injury. John Brady is a Scammon boy, was born here and lived this vicinity all his life. He was 24 years old and single. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs John Brady, his brothers, Thomas, Barney, William, and Patrick and four sisters, Misses Teresa, Anna, and Barbara are all of this city and Mrs Catharine Conley, of West Virginia. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic Church tomorrow at 10 a. m.9 He was buried on 17 April 1909 at St. Bridget's, Scammon, Cherokee County, Kansas.7,8
