Michael Grady died on 31 January 1911 on the Potomic River, Westernport, Allegany County, Maryland, at age 52. A news article in the Carbondale Leader reports the following: Michael Grady who left Simpson three years ago to reside in the South was found dead in river on Tuesday. Word has reached this city to the effect that Michael Grady, a former widely known and respected resident of Simpson, was found dead in the Potomac river at Western Port, Maryland on Tuesday of this week. The body was taken to Piedmont, West Virginia, where Mr. Grady had resided for the past few years, and is expected to arrive in this city Monday morning. The funeral will take place from the Grady home in Smpson, Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, and after requiem mass in St. Rose church, burial will be made in St. Rose cemetery. Deceased is survived by his wife, School Director Thomas F., Mrs Robert Alexander, Loretta, Leo, Marcella and Gerald of Simpson and William of Rochester.11
The following news article appeared in the Carbondale Leader: The remains of Michael Grady, whose death at Western Port, Maryland, was announced in Saturday's Leader, arrived in this city last evening and were taken in charge by Undertaker E.J. Burns. After being prepared for burial, the remains were taken to the Grady residence in Simpson, from which place the funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30.12
The following appeared in the Carbondale paper: The funeral of Michael Grady who was drowned in the Potomac river in Virginia one week ago, took place from the family home in Simpson yesterday morning and was largely attended. The cortege left the house at 9:30 o'clock and moved to St. Rose church where a requiem mass was celebraterd by Rev. W.R. Gibson.
Internment was made in St. Rose cemetery. The pall-bearers were John Curkin, William McGuire, Bernard Keough, John Laden, Hugh Murray, Patrick Hennigan.13
